Missing Part

There are several reasons why you might visit our offices. Here are 3 common dental ailments and how we go about remedying the situation.

Bad Breath

It’s the bane of a good job interview or first date. Bad breath or halitosis can leave a poor first impression on whoever you are talking to. While products like breath mints or chewing gum work to mask the effects of bad breath they do nothing to cause the root of the problem.
Halitosis is caused by layers of bacteria that sit in between the gums and on the tongue. These bacteria can proliferate due to sleeping with your mouth open during sleep, as well as certain foods like onions and garlic.
To avoid bad breath, make sure to stay on top of your home care by consistently brushing and flossing. You can also scrape your tongue with your brush.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is the leading oral health issue plaguing the mouths of Americans across the country. Gum disease is caused when bacteria gets beneath the gum line. Gum disease can result in tooth decay as well as tooth loss. Smokers are also at a higher risk for periodontal disease.
There are a couple of ways to resolve advanced periodontal disease. First, your dentist may perform a scaling procedure where they lift the gums and scrape the bacteria. This can be a little painful so your dentist may administer Novocain.
Next, you will need to up your homecare and stay on top of it. Periodontal disease is no fun for your mouth or bank account.

Sores

There are two types of mouth sores, canker sores and herpes. Canker sores are non-virus based and can be caused from stress or heredity. Canker sores typically heal themselves within a couple of weeks but chronic sufferers can have them treated with a laser.
Herpes is virus based and contagious through direct contact. Oral herpes can be remedied with topical creams and pharmaceuticals.
